LIVING ABOVE THE LINE
Encouraging students to follow the philosophy of Living Above the Line is the focus of a two-year campaign at LSE. School spirit, classroom culture, attendance, grades and behavior could all improve if students felt motivated to achieve above the minimum standards. Students will be exposed to eight aspects of their life where they are faced with making choices about what kind of person they want to be. They are called “assets”: Support, Empowerment, Boundaries, Time Management, Learning, Values, Communication and Identity.
Asking students whether their choices are above the line could provide a quick reference for teachers, administrators and parents when they are faced with guiding teens to make positive decisions. We can simply ask “Is that living above the line?” Our hope is students will begin to check their own behavior, choosing “above the line” actions. As we focus on each of the eight assets, we will provide helpful information to encourage Living Above the Line.
How can you help?
• Speak the language of “Living Above the Line” with your son or daughter at home. If students perform their homework before spending time on Facebook, identify this as above the line living.
• Be a role model of “Living Above the Line”. Being responsible, honest, and respectful really does speak louder than words. Teens may not always listen, but they are always watching adult behavior.
• Spread the word about LCAD community meetings. Every month parents, teachers, students and administrators come together to provide a support for encouraging a drug and alcohol free high school experience. It does take a village to raise our children; that village can be Lincoln Southeast families!
